'MULTIMEDIA'???

The term multimedia is used frequently in discussing how/what to blog to get into the high marks band. You're partially marked on the 'level of care in the presentation' and 'use of ICT' within your blogs. What does this mean? Multimedia = a combination of images, hyperlinks, podcasts, videos, vodcasts, links lists and other blog tools, use of Facebook/YouTube et al for audience feedback/research/marketing etc. Level of care means taking time to appropriately illustrate posts, find useful hyperlinks to include [generally make a phrase into a hyperlink; don't just type 'here is a link:'!], and checking your links work, images have been properly embedded (always: save and upload, never copy/paste or drag in), posts don't have massive gaps/white space (if you place a lot of images in a post it can take some tweaking!). I try to apply these principles. Make your blogs at least as good as this one!

SOME KEY POINTS ON YOUR BLOGS

I'll write up a more detailed review at the weekend if I get the chance, but some brief, though rather fundamental observations on your blogs:
  1. too many lack the more basic, prosaic posts - eg on the hardware, software, the task etc. Not a good idea as..
  2. You've 4 weeks of term time left!!! All of you still have to shoot, edit, soundtrack your productions. Having a long list of posts to add in - to safeguard marks for Research and Planning - in the midst of this is not a good plan
  3. audience feedback is absolutely critical at every stage - test out your title, your narrative; get some test footage asap and seek aud feedback on this.
  4. Making constant links between your production and real life examples is equally critical: Have you clearly compared yours to actual texts when writing up your audience profile for example?
  5. many of you are simply failing to reflect your learning from AS: when writing about narrative for example you should be considering the theories of Propp, Todorov, Levi-Strauss, Barthes etc - and then there is the extensive terminology for both semiotics and the film industry
  6. nobody seems to have started planning their ancillary texts yet. Remember, you are producing a PACKAGE of texts, so need to get some research into magazines/posters (radio trailers if you're confident you can do this well) underway
  7. re-read any and all comments made, especially by me - too few of you are actually acting on the points made in these
